When Talent meets Humanity

At this year’s annual gala dinner one of the artists who performed during the evening was Dimitri Kopanakis. When the evening was over he enquired about a Brisbane woman the Foundation was assisting during her cancer journey. I explained to him that the woman’s prognosis was not good and her life expectancy was short. However, her friends had organised a fund raiser for her on the 30th August and I was flying to Brisbane to be there.
When I explained that she would have liked to have been at the dinner but was not well enough, this wonderful man responded immediately without hesitation, “Then if she couldn’t be at the dinner we can at least take part of the performance to her! I will come to the event and surprise her with an impromptu performance!”
True to his word he made a couple of trips to the venue to ensure the setting would be right and then on the night turned up and performed. Susan, the woman concerned, was taken completely by surprise, as you will see in the video.
Many tears were shed by those in the audience but those of Susan’s were tears of absolute joy. She will never forget the night that Dimitri raised his voice in tribute to her.
